1. This seems obvious, but don’t accumulate as much stuff in the first place. Less is generally better for the planet anyway, and the less stuff you move, the less gas your moving truck will burn. Green moving can also translate into more “green” for you because you’ll likely spend less to move your household
  2. Get rid of stuff before you move it. Consider holding a garage sale, or selling your unnecessary items online at eBay or through Craigslist.
  3. Buy used cardboard boxes.
  4. Rent moving boxes. When packing, take advantage of companies that offer reusable packing crates, which can eliminate that waste. (We hopefully will be offering reusable plastic rental boxes soon here at LionsPride Sustainable Moving & Delivery!)
  5. There are good and bad packing peanuts, as far as the environment is concerned. When purchasing them, make sure that they are the biodegradable type. Or your neighbors newspaper/magazines they are recycling or throwing away!
  6. Natural rubber packing tapes are renewable and biodegradable.
  7. Bubble wrap and most foam packing materials are non-recyclable, so use green, reusable alternatives like newsprint, blankets, or pillows. (We have found a Bio-Degradeable Bubble Wrap option and are working now on implementing it into our daily services!)
  8. Clothing could make a good alternative packing material as well. Using clothes to cushion your other belongings might also save you a few boxes that you would have used for your clothes.
  9. Look for environmentally-friendly cleaning products to clean our your old place.
  10. Limit your use of Shrink Wrap as it is not recyclable, unless of course your moving company is like us at LionsPride and only use Bio-Degradable Shrink Wrap. It costs more for us but it is better for you and all of our children! (We do NOT charge extra for it’s use)
